Strong earthquakes hit the east of Japan in the afternoon of March 11, causing several meter-high tsunami(海啸), which killed more than 10,000 people in areas along the coast. Several nuclear plants (核电站) at the coast were broken by the earthquake and tsunami. People living near the plants have been asked to move away. The breaking of the nuclear plants is causing electricity shortages (电力短缺) in Eastern Japan. As a result, electricity is cut off for 3-hour periods in the area of Tokyo and some other areas during daytime. In order to save electricity, some shops, restaurants and tourist places in the areas are closed for some time every day. But all major airports and train lines are still open and operating.

A serious earthquake can be a terrible experience, and it is easy to forget safety measures(措施) in disorder(混乱). Fortunately, most earthquake safety measures are common sense, but if you forget everything else, remember the following instructions: drop, cover, and hold on. Also, most of earthquake deaths happen after the earthquake, so remember that the danger does not end when the shaking does!
If you stay indoors during an earthquake, move away from unsupported areas and windows. Try to get under a doorway or another area of the building which is held up by strong beams(梁). Stay under a table or desk only if it is very strong. Do not rush to lifts, because it is far safer to stay where you are. Cover your head with your arms around it and curl(蜷缩) into a ball, and wait for the shaking to stop.
If you stay outdoors during an earthquake, move to an area which is as open as possible. Don't move to buildings, electric poles and other objects which may fall during an earthquake and injure you. Protect your head and stay low to the ground till the shaking ends and it is safe to move.

Do you want to improve the way you study? Do you feel nervous before a test? Many students say that a lack(缺少) of concentration(注意力) is their biggest problem. It seriously affects their ability to study, so do their test results. If so, use these tips to help you. Study Techniques
You should always study in the same place. You shouldn't sit in a position that you use for another purpose. For example, when you sit on a sofa to study, your brain will think it is time to relax. Don't watch TV while you are studying. Experts warn that your concentration may be reduced by 50 percent if you attempt(尝试) to study in this way. Always try to have a white wall in front of you, so there is nothing to distract(make less concentrated) you. Before sitting down to study, gather together all the equipment you need. Besides your textbooks, pens, pencils and knives, make sure you have a dictionary. If your study desk or table is needed when you are not studying, store all your equipment in a box beside it.
Your eyes will become tired if you try to read a text which is on a flat surface. Put your book at an angle(角度) of 30 degrees.
Be realistic and don't try to complete too much in one study period. Finish one thing before beginning another. If you need a break, get up and walk around for a few minutes, but try not to telephone a friend or have something to eat. Test-taking Skills
All your hard work will be for nothing if you are too nervous to take your test. Getting plenty of rest is very important. This means not studying all night before your test! It is a better idea to have a long-term study plan. Try to make a timetable for your study which lasts for a few months. Exercise is a great way to reduce pressure. Doing some form of exercise every day will also improve your concentration. Eat healthy food too.
