Every month we will explore how accessories will help you to make your home a reflection of your personality. This month, we begin by talking about accessories and the importance how to choose the right accessories to create the mood and the desired effect.

There are two basic thoughts on accessorizing, coordinated accessorizing and eclectic accessorizing. Each method has a place in every home and is not mutually exclusive, you can choose to coordinate and be eclectic depending on your mood at the moment.

有两个原则：协调统一，兼收并蓄。这两个原则并不是相互排斥的，在同一个家中，你可以做到整体风格协调统一，在其中根据偏好和当时心情增添不同元素。

Coordinated accessorizing is a process that begins with a personal style and color choice and then encourages you to select accessories which are related to the style and colors you have chosen as your personal favorites. The concept of eclectic accessorizing blends your personal style and spontaneous purchases, which are not necessarily related to your style or color scheme, into a home that reflects your personality through a diverse selection of home accessories.

协调统一就是，以你的个性和色彩偏好为基础来选择饰品，以此来打造独属于你风格的家居空间。而兼收并蓄则是，拥有自己的个人风格，但在灵感激发时添置的饰品，则反映了你个性的多样化，营造独特有趣的生活空间。

When you chose to coordinate your accessories with your life style and color preferences what exactly does that mean? Well let’s explore a real life option for “coordinated” accessorizing. Let’s say your style is traditional and your color pallet is creams and browns with accents of

warm red. When you develop your homes interiors your choice for wall paint, upholstery fabrics, and window treatments should all be in the main pallet colors of cream and brown and reflecting a traditional style. Your accent color, of warm reds, should be used sparingly to bring life to each room. As you shop you might find an amazing traditional fabric that incorporates all of these colors to use for sofa pillows, and then discover a unique set of lamps that are the perfect red which bring out the pillow fabric. In a coordinated home every element is carefully selected to enhance your theme, style and preferred color pallet. The reality is eclectic accessorizing requires a great deal of experience and design skill or the result can be disastrous. It takes a keen eye and a good sense of style to identify what will enhance your home and I therefore only recommend this to the more experienced home designer.

Regardless of your accessorizing preference before you begin to purchase accessories you first need to complete the purchase of the major furniture

items in the room, as well as determine your personal style and color pallet. Once you have lain the foundations for your home assemble a “design packet” which you carry any time you shop for home accessories. This may include photos of your homes, fabric swatches, paint colors and a wish list of items you need to complete your home accessories. Accessorizing whether spontaneous or intentional requires a plan of action to assure you of a successful well designed home.

Accessories will enhance the design of your room, accent the style and color of the furniture you have selected and make your home uniquely yours. Many times we forget to put the effort into our accessories. We need to remember that accessories are the final touch that makes a room memorable to your family and friends.
