演讲稿What Makes Man?

Honorable judges , Ladies and gentlemen ,I must say it’s truly an unexpected honor for me to stand here and deliver a speech---- what maketh man. When I first got this topic, it reminded me of the classic line from a movie - King’s man: The Secrets Service , a quite refined and handsome British gentleman tells us manners maketh man. Obviously , it needs a lot of qualities to be a man , such as : manners ;intelligence ;courage; confidence; responsibility and so on. But from my point of view, the most important one is persistence--- persistence maketh man.

I’m sure you are all very familiar with one of the most famous American presidents—Abram Lincoln. He was notable for his efforts and persistence in abolishing the slavery system. However, he also showed his presidential election. In the course of his early career, he had lost the presidential elections for eight times. Besides, He suffered a nervous breakdown and had a very tough time during that period. But as an old idiom said “no road of flowers leads to glory.” He did not yield to the fate. He still kept on what he persisted and never thought of giving up. Finally, he succeeded and was elected to be a president. Then with persistence, he got the chance to abolish the slavery system and change the American history. He became such a great person in not only America but also the whole world.

Persistence is the most valuable character in our life, and it is a kind of precious quality that can be used to equip a man. With it, you will achieve success though the process is a litter harder. But without it , you can never grow up and be

a man, and success will never come to you. Nothing can bring success like persistence. Talent cannot, and education also cannot .the world is full of educated losers. Only persistence and determination can give you the power to to be a man.

Ladies and gentleman, how many roads must a man walk down before he you call him a man? How many qualities must a man equip before you view him as a man? And I’m here to say, persistence maketh a man. Be persistent, be a man.
