1. The purpose Nowadays, the world is like a big family and trade exchanges between nations have become more and more frequent. English, as an international language, has become a global communication tool, it is popular in Asia country, especially in china, ”It is said that there are about seven hundred million to eight hundred million people speaks English in the world at present, in addition to the three or four hundred million native English speakers.”(sun xiezhi,2001)Since the reformation and opening of china, people in China must master the English language. But under the influence of the Chinese environment, the English learners in college how to learn the pure English? Over the years, on how to learn English more effectively, there are discussions on foreign language teaching in China. On the one hand, people contact with Chinese from birth. Besides, they grow up in the Chinese environment. “English is formed on the basis of Chinese. English thinking mode is different from Chinese. Especially in the context of Chinese language, Chinese thinking habit is one of the biggest obstacles of English learning.” The problem in Chinese-English is a learning process. English learning should try to overcome Chinese interference, and learn to use the English thinking and not influenced by Chinese environment. On the other hand, English learners learning English is under the environment of Chinese. Chinese knowledge systems have been already stored in their brains. It is difficult to throw off Chinese influence. As many English learners, English is a fresh thing. Due to curiosity, at the beginning, they may have full confidence in English learning, later, as they meet various difficulties, they will gradually lose faith or even want to give up. Many English learners cannot escape from their local language control, because they are learning English in the Chinese environment. And they in the studying process will also more or less to compare between Chinese and English, with the help of Chinese rule in helping themselves to understand English words, phrases, sentences, articles. Finally, the author hope that she can through the study of the subject and tell the English learners , English is becoming more and more important in international, and people should learn English good and overcome difficulties of Chinese environment gives . 2.Significance The world is under globalization, trade information and cultural exchange is taking place. In a globalization world, communication is very important and English is the most widely used language in the world. English is the second language in a lot of countries. We must master. Some Beijing Olympics in 2008 and Shanghai World Expo in 2010, our country pays more attention to English learning. English learning is a long and difficult process, because the influence of Chinese context on English learning. English learners need to have full persistence and confidence. No matter how hard the English learners woke, sometimes the result is not satisfactory. English learners should correctly understand and pay great attention to the role and influence of Chinese on English learning. Then they will learn English more effectively. If English learners can reduce the mother-tongue negative influence of Chinese environment in the process of learning English, they can learn English more accurately and easily. This issue’s solution will have a practical significance in English teaching in our country. Besides, it is inevitable Chinese has a certain positive role on English learning, there is no need to avoid Chinese completely. English learners can make use of mother-tongue appropriately and analyze the language forms and cultural background between mother-tongue and English, but they also need to avoid abuse of the mother tongue, to take effective measures to avoid their interference. Chinese environmental interference is a widespread problem in a long run, and it is also an important factor in influencing the efficiency of English learners. If English learners can through specific research and solving the problem of Chinese environment brought to English learning. Then English learners can overcome the interference of the Chinese context on the maximum. At last, the author will discuss and conclude some helpful methods. She thinks this subject has its practical significance. 3. Main content The whole article is divided into seven parts. The first chapter is introduction. There are thousands of languages in the world. English is one of the world’s most widely used languages and it is a communication bridge between counties. With the information society and economic globalization, the importance of English has become increasingly promised. China, after the reform and opening-up policy, English become more and more popular and it become a useful communication tool for China and World. The majority of Chinese people are learning English in a Chinese environment. At first people began to study English in junior high school. Then began to study English in primary schools, now English learning is started kindergarten. But they learn English after they have mastered the Chinese language. Both the learner’s communication tool, the exchanging language with teachers, friends and families, or the language environment of his life, are in a Chinese context. During the process of English learning, the learners accept English knowledge under Chinese-based environment. Because of the Chinese context, mother-tongue has brought both positive and negative effects in English learning. How to learn mother tongue while playing a positive transfer function of mother tongue on English learning, avoid negative transfer of mother tongue in English learning. We should pay attention to the problem that correct understand the role and influence of mother-tongue on English learning. The second chapter is actuality of English learning in China. With the advent of the information age, globalization trends are becoming clearer. Exchanges between nations become more and more frequent. English, as the most widely used language in the world has made us realize the importance of its learning. In china, most of the primary school has set up English courses since Grade Three, in all of high school, English as a main course, it has taken a great proportion in high school entrance examination and the college entrance examination. Even after people graduate from universities, they may still meet English frequently In China, many universities have set up CET4 and CET6, and every student will try their best to pass the test. To some English learners, English is a fresh thing, due to curiosity, at the beginning, they may have full patience and confidence to learn English, later, as they meet various difficulties, they will gradually lose faith or even want to give up.. According to surveys, English learners are seriously affected by native language-Chinese. Many English learners cannot be divorced from the mother tongue control. The third chapter is the factors affecting English learning in college. There are many factors influencing English learning, especially the Chinese context. Although English learners in China have learned English for a long time, they still do not see any progress. Besides, the culture transfer is also a key factor. “When some features of the mother tongue and foreign language similar or exactly the same, it is often a promoting role in foreign language learning, this is the positive transfer.” (hu chundong, wang cairen, 1996) But when some characteristic of mother tongue are different from foreign language, mother tongue can have serious effects, which will bring difficulties to English learners’ learning, this is the negative transfer. The fourth chapter is interference of Chinese on English learning in college. In the process of learning the second language, mother-tongue interference is always there. Any kind of mother -tongue has varying degrees of interference in second language learning. In China, Chinglish often occurs among students. Practice has shown that English learners in China can only reach the native-like speaking level, and not like a native tribe speak idiomatic English. The author summarizes interference of Chinese on English learning into four parts: pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, culture. The fifth chapter is how to eliminate the interference of the environment of Chinese on English learning in college. There are some ways to eliminate the interference of the environment of Chinese on English learning. Firstly, full use of the second class. Teachers should lead English learners to use dictionaries, Internet, or other ways to learn English.Secondly, create a relaxed learning environment. A relaxing environment can arouse English learning interests. Thirdly, cultivate the habit of thinking in English In the process of English learning, we should correctly understand the interference of the mother tongue of, and always pay attention to learn English and improve English level step by step. Fourthly, enhance the learning of English cultural background. The last chapter is conclusion. English learning is a long and difficult process. Because the influence of Chinese context on English learning. English learners need to have full persistence and confidence. No matter how hard the English learners work, sometime the result is not satisfactory, sometimes the result is not satisfactory. Chinese has a long history and a complex, unique language, with unique tone, semantic, structural, and cultural background. Chinese and English are two completely different languages. For English learners in China, they are deeply influenced by Chinese. It is difficult for English learners to accept others languages. Besides, most of the English learners learn English in Chinese context. It is a negative factor for English learners learn English. How to learn English better in Chinese environment? English learners should create chances to help themselves in learning English, for example, talking with foreign teachers, entering some of the usual foreign Web sites, reading the foreign newspaper, feeling the atmosphere of the English, and so on.
